Acadian Comprehensive Therapy Services
Lafayette, Broussard and Delcambre

We are proud to announce as of November 3, we have transitioned to “In-House” billing services! In the past we have worked in conjunction with an outside billing company (Totus Tuus) to file insurance and send statements to your address. During the next few months, we will be in a transition period.

It is very possible you will receive a bill from both our billing company as well as from us if you received services prior to November 3, 2014 and then continued therapy after this date with us. Please call our office if you have any questions. We want to try to minimize any billing confusion that may arise over the next few months as swiftly as possible. Thank you for allowing us to take care of you!

New Therapy Technique Provides Quick Pain Relief!

Heath Schneider

Our Lafayette therapist, Heath Schneider has been certified in Trigger Point Dry Needling (TDN). It is a treatment for muscular tightness and spasm. When the nerves are irritated, they cause a protective spasm of the muscles to which they are connected.

This may cause conditions such as headaches, TMJ, carpal tunnel, tendonitis, decreased mobility, and chronic pain. Small, thin needles are inserted in the muscle at the trigger points. The muscles would then contract and release, improving flexibility of the muscle and decreasing symptoms.

Our Broussard therapist, Rene LeBlanc, also offers this technique in our Broussard location.

Helpful Tip – Do You Have Good Posture?

Do You Have Good Posture

Good posture throughout the day helps prevent neck and shoulder problems.

For most people, the following tips will improve posture: lift the chest up slightly from the breast bone, pull shoulder blades gently together and down, lengthen the back of the neck as if string were attached to the back of the head and pulling toward the ceiling.

What is TRX THERAPY?

TRX Therapy

The TRX Suspension Trainer is the original, best-in-class workout system that leverages gravity and your body weight to perform hundreds of exercises. You’re in control of how much you want to challenge yourself on each exercise – because you can simply adjust your body position to add or decrease resistance.

Born in the Navy SEALs, Suspension Training body weight exercise develops strength, balance, flexibility and core stability simultaneously.

Our TRX expert, Heath Schneider, offers this therapy technique in our Lafayette location.

Helpful Tip

When to use heat…Heat is typically best for tight muscles or arthritic type pain. Heat should only be applied if there is no or minimal swelling, typically ~72 hours after an injury.

Heat should never be applied immediately after an injury as it will cause additional swelling. While applying the heat, make sure to monitor the skin to avoid burns.

Helpful Tip

When to use ice? As a rule of thumb: use an ice or a cold pack for at least the first 48 hours after an injury, to reduce pain or swelling. Use a barrier between the ice and skin (such as a towel or pillow case) and monitor your skin for any signs of frostbite (white skin). Ice no more than 20 minutes, but this can be performed several times per day.

Helpful Tip – Ankle Sprains

The ligaments along the outside of the ankle are fairly small and are susceptible to injury. When an ankle rolls in, the ligaments and muscles are over stretched, or possibly torn. The most important part of recovering from an ankle injury is early management of the swelling, restoring normal ankle flexibility (range of motion), and balance. Receptors in your ankle are vital to your balance and coordination and must be retrained after an injury.

Facts About Physical Therapists

Physical therapists are highly educated, licensed health care professionals who help patients improve or restore mobility, and in many cases helping patients reduce pain, and avoid the need for surgery and the long-term use of prescription medications and their side effects.  Physical therapists examine, evaluate and treat patients whose conditions limit their ability to move and function in daily life.  Our physical therapist’s overall goal is to maintain, restore or improve your mobility and help reduce pain.  Ask your doctor to refer you to the finest physical therapy facility in Acadiana.

Helpful Tip

Do you have shoulder pain? People of any age and activity level may experience shoulder pain at one point or another. This is partly due to the fact that the shoulder is the most mobile joint in the body, so it is used for a wide variety of tasks and activities. While many cases of shoulder pain are relatively harmless, others are an indicator of a more serious condition.

Helpful Tip

Lifting TipLift with your legs… The way we lift objects from the floor can go a long way in preventing back pain. It is important that we maintain the normal “sway”, known as the lumbar lordosis, when lifting an object or even stooping down to pick up a penny. Large muscles in the legs were designed to perform such a task, compared to small, thin muscles in the spine. Keep your trunk as vertical as possible. Keep the object close to your body, and avoid twisting, instead move with your feet when turning.
